What I Admire Most About Brett Favre

My oldest son, Che Jr plays college football.  I didn’t have the talent or skill to compete in high school or college.

Brett Favre and I have something in common.  We are both members of the over 40 club. I am 42 and Brett is 40.

The Hall of Fame

Brett Favre

No doubt about it.  Brett Favre is headed to the Hall of Fame.

A quick review of Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia outlines Brett’s successes.

Favre is the only player to win the AP Most Valuable Player three consecutive times (1995–97). He led the Packers to seven division championships (1995, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2007), five NFC Championship Games (1995, 1996, 1997, 2007 and 2010), winning two (1996 and 1997), and two Super Bowl appearances, winning one (Super Bowl XXXI).

He holds many NFL records including: most career touchdown passes, most career passing yards, most career pass completions, most career pass attempts, most career interceptions thrown, most consecutive starts, and most career victories as a starting quarterback.

Last Game

Hold your breath.  Look around.  Listen closely.

The loss today to the New Orleans Saints in overtime (31-28) might be his last game.

You’ve heard this song in the past – athlete retires, becomes bored, returns to the sport to play again.

After the game, a reported asked the question about retirement, Brett said “I know people are rolling their eyes or will roll their eyes.” In a situation like this, I really don’t want to make a decision right now based solely on what happened (Sunday).”

Sure I wish he could have won another Super Bowl.  It didn’t happen.

In a prior interview with Pam Oliver, he was asked:

Pam: What keeps you addicted to football?

Brett: First of all, you have to love it! There is no substitute for playing in a Championship game.  It’s grinding but it is fun.
